Introduction
Furtune ("the App") is a personal checkbook and budgeting app in which friendly animal characters help you record income and expenses, reconcile accounts, keep track of recurring bills, follow budgets and savings goals, and build good money habits. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App handles, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the rights you have.
The App is operated by Unattached Limited ("we," "us," or "our"). By using Furtune, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 On-Device Data (we do not receive this)
Everything you enter in Furtune is stored locally on your device: your accounts (names, types, balances, and the animal looking after each), your transactions (amounts, payees, categories, dates, memos, check numbers, and cleared status), your recurring bills and income, your budgets and alert lines, your savings goals, your custom categories, your nickname, your settings, and your Critter Cottage progress (coins, decorations, companions, and streaks). This data stays on your device and is removed when you delete the App or use Erase All Data. We do not upload or receive it, and it is not shared with our advertising or analytics providers.
1.2 No Account, No Bank Connection
Furtune does not require sign-up or login and does not connect to any bank, card issuer, or financial institution. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, bank credentials, or account numbers unless you choose to contact us directly.
1.3 Files You Export or Share
When you export transactions as a CSV file (Furtune Pro), the App creates the file on your device and hands it to the destination you pick — for example the Files app, Mail, Messages, AirDrop, or a cloud drive. We do not receive a copy. From that point the file is handled by the app or service you chose, under its own privacy policy. An export contains your financial records, so share it with care.
1.4 Receipt Photos (Furtune Pro)
If you scan a receipt, the photo you take or pick is read on your device by the operating system's built-in text recognition (Apple Vision on iPhone, Google ML Kit on Android, both running offline). The App uses the text only to fill in the amount, date, and shop of a new entry, which you check before saving. The photo is not uploaded, not stored by the App, and not sent to us or to any provider. When you pick a photo, the App receives only that one photo, not your photo library.
1.5 Device Backups
If you use iCloud Backup or back up your device to a computer, Apple may include Furtune's on-device data in that backup, under your Apple Account and Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to these copies.
1.6 Advertising (free plan)
On the free plan, the App shows a native ad on the home screen, provided by Google AdMob. To select, show, and measure ads and to prevent ad fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects information from your device, such as your IP address, device model, operating-system version, language, app version, approximate location derived from your IP address, ad interactions (views and taps), and diagnostic information.
- Advertising identifier (IDFA): before iOS asks whether Furtune may track you, the App shows a short explanation. If you choose Allow, Google may use your device's advertising identifier to show ads more relevant to you. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, the identifier is not available to the App or to Google, and you will see non-personalized or less personalized ads. The number of ads and the App's features are the same either way.
- Consent in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland: where the law requires it, Google's User Messaging Platform shows a consent form before any ads are requested. You can change your choice later in Settings → Ad Privacy Options.
- Furtune Pro removes ads; the ad SDK does not request ads for Pro users.
Google's use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
1.7 Usage Statistics, Crash Reports, and Remote Settings
The App uses Google Firebase:
- Firebase Analytics collects usage information such as which screens are opened, session length, app version, device model, operating-system version, language, country, and an app-instance identifier. If you allowed tracking (Section 1.6), it may also use the advertising identifier. We use this to understand how the App is used and to improve it;
- Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports and related technical details (such as the state of the App when it crashed, device model, and operating-system version) so we can find and fix problems;
- Firebase Remote Config lets us change certain settings without an update — for example, whether ads are shown. To deliver these settings it uses an app-instance identifier and basic device information.
None of these include your accounts, transactions, amounts, payees, budgets, or goals.
1.8 Purchase Data
Furtune offers an optional "Furtune Pro" upgrade. Purchases are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat. When the App starts, it contacts RevenueCat to check whether Pro is active; this uses a random, app-generated identifier that is not linked to your name or email. We and RevenueCat receive a pseudonymous purchase/transaction record and your Pro entitlement status so the App can unlock Pro features and restore purchases, along with basic technical information sent with any network request (such as app version, operating-system version, device model, country of your App Store account, and IP address). None of your financial records are sent. We never receive your full payment-card details.
1.9 Feedback and Messages You Choose to Send
If you rate the App inside Furtune with fewer than four stars and write what could be better, or use "Message the Developer," we receive your star rating (for ratings), the text you type, the email address if you choose to enter one, the app version, your operating-system version, device model, language setting, whether Furtune Pro is active, and a timestamp. This is sent only when you tap Send, is stored in our database (Supabase), and is forwarded to our team's Slack workspace so we can read and answer it. It never includes your accounts, transactions, or other records unless you write them in your message. Entering an email address is optional; we use it only to reply to you. Ratings of four or five stars are passed to Apple's App Store rating prompt and are not sent to us.
1.10 Technical Data and Contacting Us
- If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, de-identified crash and usage diagnostics. These do not include your records;
- If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your records are used on your device to show your balances, calendar, budgets, reports, goals, reminders, and Critter Cottage. The limited information that reaches us or our providers (Sections 1.6–1.10) is used solely to:
- Show and measure ads on the free plan and prevent ad fraud;
- Unlock Furtune Pro and restore your purchases;
- Understand how the App is used, find and fix crashes, and adjust settings such as whether ads are shown;
- Respond to your feedback, questions, and support requests;
- Maintain, secure, and improve the App.
3. Information Sharing and Disclosure
3.1 We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
3.2 Service Providers
We rely on a small number of vendors to operate the App:
- Apple — app distribution, optional de-identified diagnostics, payment processing for Furtune Pro, notifications, and Face ID / Touch ID;
- RevenueCat — purchase and subscription-entitlement management;
- Google (AdMob and User Messaging Platform) — advertising on the free plan and ad consent where required;
- Google (Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Remote Config) — usage statistics, crash reports, and remote settings;
- Supabase — database that stores the feedback and messages you choose to send us;
- Slack — notifies our team of that feedback and those messages.
RevenueCat, Google Firebase, Supabase, and Slack act as our processors and may use the data only to perform these services for us. For advertising, Google may act as an independent controller of the data its SDK collects, under its own privacy policy. None of these providers receives your Furtune records from us; those stay on your device.
3.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose information we hold if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or us. Because your records are stored only on your device, we have no copy of them to disclose.
3.4 Business Transfer
Any information we hold may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
4. Data Storage, Security, and Retention
4.1 Storage and Security
Your records are stored in the App's private storage on your device and are protected by your device's own security, such as your passcode and iOS data protection. You can also turn on the App lock (Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode); when it is on, the App hides its contents in the app switcher and asks you to unlock it. Face ID and Touch ID are handled entirely by iOS; the App never receives your face or fingerprint data. Anyone who can unlock your device and the App can see your records. We apply reasonable safeguards to the little information we hold (such as support emails) but cannot guarantee absolute security.
4.2 Retention
On-device data is kept until you delete the App or erase it in the App. Exported files are kept wherever you saved or sent them until you delete them there. Purchase records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat according to their policies and as needed for accounting and support. Analytics, crash, and advertising data are retained by Google according to its retention settings and policies. Feedback and messages are retained while they remain useful for supporting you and improving the App. Support emails are retained for as long as needed to help you and to keep a record of the request.
4.3 Deleting Your Data
To delete everything, use Settings → Erase All Data in the App, or delete the App. Erasing removes all accounts, transactions, recurring bills, budgets, goals, and custom categories from the device and cannot be undone. Files you have already exported are not affected; delete them where you saved them. To reset the advertising identifier, use your iOS privacy settings. To request deletion of feedback, a message, or an email you sent us, or of data associated with your app-instance identifier, contact us (Section 11); we process verified requests within the time required by applicable law.
5. Permissions
- Notifications (optional): used for recurring-bill reminders and budget alerts. They are scheduled and delivered locally on your device; nothing about your bills or budgets is sent to us;
- Tracking (optional): asked once on the free plan, after a short explanation. It only decides whether the advertising identifier may be used (Section 1.6);
- Face ID / Touch ID (optional): used only if you turn on the App lock;
- Camera and photos (optional, Furtune Pro): used only when you scan a receipt. Photos are read on the device and never uploaded (Section 1.4). On Android the App uses the system camera and photo picker and does not request the camera permission;
- Files (when you export): the App writes a file only to the location you select in the system share sheet;
- Furtune does not request access to your precise location, contacts, photo library, microphone, or calendars;
- You may change or revoke any permission at any time in your device settings.
6. Your Rights and Choices
- Keep your records entirely on-device (always the case);
- Allow or refuse tracking, and change it at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking;
- Change your ad-consent choice in Settings → Ad Privacy Options where it applies;
- Remove ads with Furtune Pro;
- Export your transactions (Furtune Pro) or erase all data in the App at any time;
- Turn reminders, budget alerts, sound effects, and the App lock on or off;
- Choose whether and when to send feedback or a message, and whether to include an email address;
- Turn off "Share With App Developers" in iOS Settings to stop Apple's diagnostics;
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings;
- Contact us with any privacy question or complaint.
7. Rights for Users in Specific Regions
7.1 European Economic Area / UK (GDPR)
You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent. Because your records are stored only on your device, you can exercise most of these directly in the App (view, edit, export, and erase). For the limited data processed by us and our providers, our legal bases are performance of our service (purchases), your consent (feedback and messages you send), your consent (personalized advertising and tracking, collected through Google's consent form and iOS's tracking prompt), and our legitimate interests (crash reporting, usage statistics, and security). You may withdraw consent at any time as described in Section 6, and you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
7.2 Japan (APPI)
We handle personal data in accordance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, and you may request disclosure, correction, or deletion of your retained personal data. Information collected by the advertising and analytics SDKs described above may be provided to Google, including outside Japan.
7.3 Republic of Korea (PIPA)
Where PIPA applies, we obtain consent where required, limit use to stated purposes, and honor rights to access, correct, and delete.
7.4 California (CCPA / CPRA)
- Right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used;
- Right to delete personal information;
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information;
- Right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising — choose "Ask App Not to Track" in iOS, or turn tracking off in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or use Furtune Pro;
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights.
8. International Data Transfers
Your Furtune records are not transferred to us. Purchase and entitlement data handled by Apple and RevenueCat, advertising, analytics, crash, and remote-settings data handled by Google, feedback and messages handled by Supabase and Slack, support emails, and any diagnostics Apple provides may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States and countries in the European Union. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for the transfers we control.
9. Children's Privacy
Furtune is a general-audience personal-finance app and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data (for example, in a message or by email), contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time, including if we add features that change how data is handled. Material changes will be reflected by a revised Effective Date and, where appropriate, notice within the App. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
